ANNOUNCING MY NEW BOOK!

Dwelling on the Threshold: Reflections of a Spirit-Worker and Devotional Polytheist by Sarah Kate Istra Winter

Within the myriad traditions of modern polytheism, some are called to a deeper and more consuming level of engagement with the gods, spirits, and otherworlds. These mystics, devotees, shamans, god-spouses, seers, spirit-workers and others often must craft a unique path for themselves based on scraps of historical evidence, inspiration from colleagues and mentors, and guidance from the holy powers.

In a series of short essays and poems, the author explores this sacred terrain of spirit-work and devotional polytheism, drawing on her own personal experience, as well as placing these practices in the context of ancient traditions and overall modern paganism. Specific rites and relationships may vary widely between practitioners, but many of the struggles and epiphanies shared within these pages are universal. With a passionate, knowledgeable, and compelling voice, the author describes a spiritual vocation that can be harrowing and lonely at times, but also breathtakingly magical and profoundly fulfilling.

198 pages, 6×9″, paperback, published May 2012. Can be purchased directly from Createspace, from Amazon.com, or (in a few weeks) you can order it from your local independent or major bookstore.

For more information and table of contents, see the page on my blog.

Updates...
me
[info]erl_queen
So, first off, I've got several new pieces up in my imWalde shop on Etsy:

Secondly, I've recently moved my Girls Underground blog to the domain itself, merging the website and blog into one. Come look!

On my Forest Door blog, I've been writing a lot about mumming recently...

And don't forget the Raven's Bread blog, charting the myriad manifestations of the fly agaric mushroom!

New Blog

As if I didn't have enough projects on my plate, I've started a new blog documenting the appearance of the Amanita muscaria mushroom in modern Western culture.

This one's just for fun, really, although there are a couple pages on the blog with more serious background and resources for those interested. Mostly, it's just going to be pictures I collect featuring fly agarics in art, advertising, vintage Christmas cards, whatever I can find.

Please come check it out!

New Jewelry for Yule

Just popping in to let you all know that I've got a few new pieces in my Etsy shop, and I'm offering a discount of 20% off everything if you use the coupon code "YULETIDE2010" at checkout. Come check it out!

Since I don't celebrate Thanksgiving (no meaningful reason, just not interested), I'm going to spend the day decorating for Yuletide and planning out my many upcoming seasonal celebrations. I love this time of year! Plus, we actually had SNOW here a couple days ago, which is bizarre for our little valley, especially this early, so that really put me in the right mood.

New Bone Jewelry

New offerings for autumn are now available in the imWalde shop. Featuring bones and teeth of coyote, possum, rabbit, cougar, boar, deer, horse, snake, bear, fox, rat, bobcat and sheep. Echoes of fairytales such as “Brother and Sister,” “The Fox’s Wedding,” “The Pied Piper,” and “White-Bear-King Valemon.” Lucky amulets, delicate necklaces, and bold statement pieces – there’s a little of everything.

I am also having a sale on all earlier pieces, from 10-50% off everything - just look for SALE in the item title.

Of special interest to all Hellenic or Roman polytheists out there - am selling a few knucklebone amulets, continuing a tradition that dates back to ancient times. Come look!

I should add - this round of jewelry includes several pieces that I cleaned myself - such as the possum jaw bone (bottom left photo, from found roadkill) and the rabbit scapula (bottom right, posed with the skull of the same rabbit). It's amazing to move an animal body through this process, and turn death into something beautiful.
